Event: Glassroots Festival
Date and Time: August 24th,  2008, from 11 a.m. – 6p.m.
Description: This is a fringe art festival showcasing local music and artists of all mediums.
Location: 11th and Market Street in Tacoma, WA

Event: Senior Month
Date and Time: September 1 - 30, 2008
Details: The weather is grand and the crowds are small – a perfect time for folks 65 or better to get half-price admission to Northwest Trek and take advantage of the relaxed pace of fall. Take a leisurely stroll through the core area network of paved walkways or sit a while on one of the many benches along the way. Enjoy a lovely ride on the tram and enjoy the herding behaviors of the elk.

Event: "Wrinkles in Paradise"
Date and Time: Sept. 5 @ 7:00 p.m. - Sept. 7 @ 2:00 p.m.
Event Description: An original musical comedy produced by Wrinkles of Washington, the premior senior theater organization in the South Sound. Cast ages range from 55 to 90; musicians, singers, dancers and actors. Proceeds go to Senior Services of South Sound. This is our 15th annual production at the Washington Center for the Perorming Arts in Olympia.

Event: PAWSwalk
Date and Time: September 6th, 2008, from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Description: Come bark in the park and help animals in need at PAWSwalk at Seattle’s Magnuson Park. Bring your dog or walk in honor of another favorite animal. Afterward, enjoy animal-friendly shopping, canine agility demonstrations, dog massages, a kids’ zone, and more! All donations help orphaned, injured, and homeless at PAWS. Volunteer opportunities are also available.

Event: 4th Annual Emerald City Lights Bike Ride and & 5-k Walk
Date and Time: September 6th, 2008. Registration for the bike ride begins at 7 a.m. and the event starts at 8 a.m.
Description: Bring the family for a fun-filled day with a baked potato feed, live music, and raffle prizes. Participants choose to go on an 18, 30, or 65 mile bike ride or head out on a 5-k walk (3.1 mi), and each participant needs to bring 2 cans of food for the food banks. The goal is to feed those in need with healthy organic foods during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, and ultimately, they would like to feed a family every day of the year. Currently, this organization is giving a fresh bag of produce to a family each week with the help of Full Circle Organic Farms in Carnation.
Location: Start and finish at the Auburn Game Farm Park (3000 R St, Auburn, WA 98002)
Cost: The ride costs $35 per person before September 6, and $45 on the day of the event. The walk costs $ 15 per person before September 6, and $20 on the day of the event. There will be t-shirts for sale.

Description: A FAMILY “FUN” RAISER – PAJAMA PARTY for Morningsong. Put on your pajamas and join us for the Movies for Morningsong event! Enjoy a family friendly movie on the big screen. Morningsong Early Learning Center is the only child care facility for homelesschildren in Seattle. Morningsong offers a safe learning environment for children ages one to five, who are living in Seattle in emergency or transitional housing.Morningsong focuses on positive self-esteem, building social skills, and general development to help prepare each child for academic success.

Event: FAAN: Walking for Food Allergy: Moving Toward a Cure
Date and Time: September 6, 2008, check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.
Description: FAAN is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness, provide education, and advance research on behalf of those affected by food allergies and anaphylaxsis. In the state of Washington, approximately 61,000 children cope with food allergies every day.

Event: Troop to Trek
Date and Time: September 6, 2008, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Details: Northwest Trek takes this opportunity to salute our military personnel and their families. Active duty personnel and their families as well as military retirees can get half-price admission for this special day. All who come to the park can make a themed craft to be mailed to a Washington-based unit deployed overseas. For more information on the park, go to www.nwtrek.org

Event: Children's Hospital Cancer Research Fundraiser
Date and Time: September 11th 7-9pm
Description: Danny Vernon will be performing on stage as Elvis! Also Ted Vigil will be there performing as John Denver...a show for the whole family!! A raffle drawing will be done durring intermission to raise money for the Children's Hospital Cancer Research fund. All proceeds go towards this amazing chartiy. Event: Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk
Date and Time: September 12th - 14th 2008
Details: Walk 60 miles in the boldest breast cancer event in history - the Breast Cancer 3-Day benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
Location:
Seattle- The 3-Day route covers approximately 15-22 miles each day for three days in a row, totaling approximately 60 miles.

Event: Adventures in Travel Expo
Date and Time: September 13th – 14th, 2008
Description: This expo will offer Seattle area consumers and travel agent professionals a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience the best of today’s travel industry. In this experiential marketplace, attendees can interact and comparison shop with hundreds of destinations, travel experts, and tour operators, attend expert seminars, experience hands-on adventure activities including scuba diving lessons, rock climbing, kite-boarding, and fly-fishing demos. Additionally, there will be unique cultural performances on the Global Beats Stage.

Event: Society of Women Engineers ? South Puget Sound Fundraiser
Date and Time: September 20th, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. until the zoo closes
Description: This event is for society friends and families or those interested in SWE events. This is the annual fundraiser and they will celebrate the second year of the South Puget Sound (SPS) Section. Admission includes a full day-pass to the zoo, and an all-you-can-eat picnic lunch, drinks included. A few surprises may be planned for the day’s events. The deadline for ticket sales is September 5th at 5 p.m.

Event: Run Wild
Date and Time: September 20, 8 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Details: Novice and veteran walkers and runners alike will enjoy a break from the norm, so raise your spirits and your animal smarts with Run Wild at Northwest Trek. Escape the traffic and concrete canyons and take a tour of the 8K or 5K wooded course and feel good about raising funds for the education program at Trek. Your registration includes admission to the park for the day. (Sorry, no pets, strollers or other wheeled transportation allowed.) Pre-registered (includes T-shirt) : $25. Event: "Cycle the WAVE" All Women's Bike Ride
Location: Tibbetts Park, Issaquah, WA
Start Date and Time: September 21 7:30 a.m. & 8:30 a.m.
Cost: $45.00
Event Description: Cycle the WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere) a women's only, untimed bike ride weaves through Issaquah, Bellevue, Maple Valley and Renton. There is a 25 mile (Girly Girl) ride and a 62 mile (Burly Girl) ride to promote awareness and raise funds for Eastside Domestic Violence Programs. Grab a sister, daughter, mom or friend and register NOW! Space is limited to the first 300 registrants. Organized by EDVP's Rising Star Guild & Lakemont Ladies' Cycling Club. Event: Fallen Soldiers Banner
Date and Time: As soon as possible---Banners go out During the Time of Remembrance weekend in September.
Details: The Gold Star families of Washington State need our help. They are making banners for each of the 122 fallen soldiers from Washington State. These banners, memorializing their loved ones that have given the ultimate sacrifice to America, are being carried in parades and displayed by the families at other appropriate venues. The goal of the Gold Star families is to have all of the remaining 75 banners complete by the Time of Remembrance weekend in September. Please help make this goal a reality!
Each Banner is 2 1/2 ft. x 3 1/2 ft. and includes:
  • Large photo
  • Name
  • Branch of Military & Rank
  • Dates of birth and death
  • Fallen soldier's hometown

Event: Hoot 'n' Howl
Date and Time: October 24 & 25, 2008, 6 - 10 p.m.
Details: It’s all treat and no trick at Northwest Trek’s Hoot ‘n’ Howl. This is one of the very few times the park is open to the public at night and it is a great chance to see our animals’ nocturnal behavior. Games, crafts and lots of non-scary fun keep the family busy throughout the lighted trails of the park. And there are yummy treats to eat as well. For a reduced price and to ensure your space, make reservations online by 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22. Admission at the door is higher and may be limited in case of high demand. Reserved tickets: adults $10/ages 3-12 $6. At the door: adults $12/ages 3-12 $8. (price subject to change) For reservations, go to the Web page, nwtrek.org.

Event: Grammy-nominated Tab Benoit at Centralia College
Date and Time: October 29, 2008, from 7 – 9:30 p.m.
Description: Benoit is a Grammy-nominated guitarist and a Louisiana Wetlands activist who has been the standard bearer for a new generation of Cajun blues musicians. He recently won Contemporary Blues Male Artist of the Year for the second year in a row, and B.B. King Entertainer of the Year. He blends rock and soul with the indigenous sounds to the Louisiana bayou. Chris Guenther is the opening act.

Event: Operation Christmas Child
Date and Time: All year: National Collection Week is: November 12-19
Description: A select group of teens from across the country, including a student from Washington State University, are gearing up to volunteer their time in South America during a 10-day trip to Ecuador with Samaritan’s Purse Youth (SPY) teams.  Each year, SPY participants from ages 16 to 19 travel to third-world countries to distribute shoe box gifts to hurting boys and girls and to participate in evangelism and relief projects. Over 3,000 gifts will be given to needy children living south of Quito in the towns of Penipe, Ambato, and Shell. The team will also help re-build homes destroyed in February during the Tungurahua volcano eruption near Penipe.
